5 Months… Already!

5 month board

February 26, 2015

My monkey is 5 months old.  I can’t believe it.  I have so many emotions about the last 5 months.  It’s hard to sort through them all.  Some days it feels like the blink of an eye.  On other days I feel like I’ve been running a marathon.

This is what I love about her:

She is a wonderful gift.

She lights up when she sees Jeremy.

She is happy unless she is tired.

She has the sweetest face in the world.

She doesn’t mind me changing her diaper or putting on her clothes.

She is ticklish.

She is a good sleeper.

She is a self-soother.

She’s inquisitive and alert.

She brings joy to those around her.

She is a testimony of love.  Her heart is big.

We did some shopping at Sam’s Club today.  It took us right back to one of the first trips we ever made with little Selah June.  When she was just a week old, we tried getting out of the house by going to Sam’s.  The second we walked into the store, we knew it was a bad idea.  The GERMS!  People were like walking zombies… magnets drawn to the baby…. mindlessly grabbing at her with their grubby disgusting hands.

This time was much better.  She was a sweetheart and was so good while we shopped.

Later….

We saw a fierce display of emotion in Miss Selah June this evening.  While Ab and Brock were trying to deal with the boys, Jeremy held Jules for a few minutes.  I would have held him, but I was holding Selah June.  When SJ caught sight of her daddy holding another baby, she absolutely had core meltdown in front of my very eyes.  Her lower lip pouted out.  Her eyes swelled with huge tears.  Her face turned a shade of red.  And she lost it.  She cried!  SJ doesn’t cry very often over very much at all.  I told Jeremy to leave the room… that he was upsetting her.  Even after he left, she just cried and cried.  Her heart was broken.  Her daddy had traded her in for some other baby, and she couldn’t handle the terrible rejection.  Who was that other kid? Why was he so special?  Where did he come from?  Her little mind was just racing with rage and grief.

After several minutes, I traded babies.  Jeremy swept Selah June up in his arms and tried to snuggle her.  He sang SEVERAL songs to her before he could get a smile out of her.  She was not happy with him, and she wasn’t about to just let him waltz back into the picture.

Mom’s Big Day

February 20, 2015

I had my Rite of Passage talk on Friday.  Jeremy and Mom both wanted to go, so we decided to talk Selah June.  She’s usually really good when Jeremy walks around and holds her, so we figured that worst case scenario he could stand in the back — which he did.  She was really really great though.  No crying… barely a peep.  I think Jeremy walked outside with her one time.

There were so many people who wanted to see her!  She got to meet many of the important people in her mommy’s life.  And she got to hear her mommy “do her thing” for the first time.

who are you

“I don’t know about you….”

ok i like you

“Okay… You’re okay.”

GET IN MY BELLY!!!!

Selah June wants to put EVERYTHING in her mouth.  On her exersaucer, she loves the big blue ball.  Actually, most of what she does in her “office” is try to eat the big blue ball.  It never ceases to be a challenge.

She’s also getting really good at holding her bottle.  I don’t know what to do with this new streak of independence.  A first sign that she’s not going to need me always and forever.

Whoa…..  What a night.  I was a dumb butt and stayed up until 10 working on my Rite of Passage talk for Friday.  Selah June was up at 11, then again at 4, and then again by 7:30.  I think she’s going through some kind of developmental phase.  Every time we go to check on her in her crib, she’s rolled over all the way to the rails.  Every time I change her diaper, she’s grabbing my arms with both hands.  There’s a lot going on in that little girl’s brain!  I’d probably have trouble sleeping too.  🙂

My Valentine Baby

We spent this weekend with Chris and Carrie.  They brought the kids down from Huntsville to see the baby for the first time.  It was great to see them.  Though they were here for about 24 hours, we had fun kissing babies, eating steak, playing Cards Against Humanity, eating brunch, and sharing laughs and good stories.

Selah June stole their hearts as she is apt to do.  She makes a great valentine baby.

Play Monster

Selah June is using both her hands to play like crazy on playmats and in exersaucers and bouncers and bumbo chairs and you name it!  She gnaws on both hands but prefers to suck her left thumb.  She likes to squeal and squeal and squeal with her Mommy.  We sing Itsy Bitsy Spider.  We shake rattles.  And we watch Peppa Pig.  It’s a full life for this little play monster.

Come Hang in My Crib!

February 9, 2015

Selah June spent her first night in the nursery.  She slept in her crib!

in bed

Both her mommy and her daddy had anxiety over the experience.  I had nightmares that someone broke into the house and kidnapped her.  Jeremy just couldn’t sleep.  She seemed to handle the situation much better than either of us.

This major change is brought on by her new discovery that she can roll over.  The co-sleeper is just not the place for a roly poly.  She also is squirming all over the place.  At nap time, we lay her down in the middle of the crib, and within 15 minutes she’s managed to jam herself up against the slats at one end or the other.  She’s a mover and a shaker.

I dreamt last night that her feet were huge.  Maybe it’s because I started this post last night.  Maybe it’s because she’s growing so fast before my very eyes.  I can’t soak her in enough.

Birthday Baby

February 8, 2015

We spent Sunday afternoon at Sanders Beach Park celebrating Winston and Liam’s birthdays.  Of course, Selah June had to be the best dressed baby at the ball.  How many fashionable princesses pulled off hot pink leggings, striped onesies, saddle oxford sock feets, and a black flower headband?  Holy cow!  That’s so much cute per square inch!!
