“A” is for “apple”

Friday, March 23, 2018

We bought a tracing book for SJ several months ago, but she’s just now really ready to do it. Jeremy and I both went to school to pick her up, and she told us both what she’s been telling us each separately. “Noooooo!!!!!  I don’t want you to pick me up. Go home! I want to stay here!!!!” And all the other little kids just look at us like “she’s crazy. Don’t listen to her. We don’t know why she’s saying that.”

Daddy simply replied, “We were going to go to Target, but I guess we’ll go without you.”

“YAY TARGET!!!!!” she yelled.

And all the teachers cracked up laughing. Somebody is a little bit spoiled.

At Target, we picked up some dry erase markers so that we could try out our tracing book now that we’re talking about letters. She got really into it after dinner, and we talked about “A is for apple” and “B is for ball. And making the classic do do do do do do do…. as we traced from one dot to the next, we practiced writing our letters.

Mommy! I’m Learning!

Tuesday, March 20, 2018

We’ve been working on letters. Right now, we can identify a, b, and c. And we know what sound the letter “a” says. During her bath, Jeremy yelled, “Mommy, come see what Selah June did.”

First Things First

Monday, March 19, 2018

Selah June and I wanted to spend some time on our park outside when we got home from school. But the weather has been a little nasty, and so there was dirt and grime on our swings. SJ immediately demanded paper towels to clean it up. I asked her to go get the yellow wipes from under the counter. She ran off on a mission, saying “Yes ma’am!”

When she returned, she needed to use more and more and more. Every square inch needed to be spotless.

She’s my little cleaner.

Potty Time!!!!

Sunday, March 18, 2018

Today is a big day for SJ.  She thinks it was a big day because she got a little baby that moves. The little baby’s name is Swirly Baby.

It’s Friday  it’s Friday  it’s Friday  it’s Friday  it’s Friday  it’s Friday  it’s Friday  I tried I tried day it’s Friday it’s Friday it’s Friday and find it by day by day by day by day by day

(Selah June demanded to play with the voice-text recognition.)

The real reason today is a big day is because we got rid of our baby potties, and we set up stools so that we could reach the big potty.

Tonight, she ran in  The bathroom saying she had to go potty, and Jeremy said that he was using the downstairs one. She would have to go upstairs. She started running up the stairs saying she had to poop. So I followed her, and after we wiped her tushy,  I told her that she needed to call daddy a potty hog. She  thought that was pretty funny and readily told him how we both felt.  Then later, she had my phone and Jeremy was watching basketball I told her she was a coloring book and phone hog and daddy was a TV hard. She said “no….” I said “yes….” She just started laughing at me.

Later, I asked her if she was my favorite girl. She said no, but she was daddy‘s favorite girl. And I said “Is daddy my favorite boy?” And she said “no.  He’s my favorite boy.” I said “ Then who is  my favorite boy?”  She said “ummmmm…. Aaron?”

A Spring Break Adventure

Spring Break is this upcoming week, but one of the downsides of my sweet job is that I don’t get a break unless I take leave. So I decided to take leave. But, by the time I decided to take leave, everybody else in the office already had travel plans in place. So I decided Spring Break needed to come early. I took off Friday, and I’m taking off tomorrow to give us the space to have a little fun.

On Friday, we spent the day stopping by the garden workday out at the UWF Community Garden, eating Chick-a-lay, hanging out with Grammy while Grandpa went to his improv lesson, and then having dinner and a sleepover with Daddy at their house. SJ helped Grammy make a wonderful dinner. She loved putting all the fancy placemats on the table, as well as folding the napkins and placing them with silverware at each setting.

On Saturday, we went to the zoo. It was an experiment. The last couple of times we’ve taken her to the zoo, she’s really liked the train but not the animals so much. This time, however, she really got a kick out of feeding the goats out of her cup. The goats being so eager to get some of those pellets gave her the giggles.

And it was all fun and games until the pig.

After our nap, we woke up to a fun surprise — dinner with Mimi, Satie and Sebastian, Grammy and Grandpa!!!

Being All Kinds of Three

Friday, March 2, 2018

This week was Dr. Seuss week at school. All the crafts were Seuss-themed. They read Dr. Seuss books. And there was a prop out in the lobby for people to take pics of their kids. (The staff made me get in there with her. Looking back, it’s not like me not to want to get in the photo. That was Aunt Flo being mean to me.)

We asked SJ all week whether she liked Dr. Seuss. She said she loves him. “He writes words for kids to learn.” In her little voice, it sounds like, “He writes words for kids to wearn” with all the emphasis that italics can portray.

The weekends are my favorite time of the week. They are also sometimes really hard. We have a different rhythm to our days, and 3 year olds need to stick to their schedules. The extra treats we have, the later naps we take, and the different kind of play we do all serve as a recipe for a few fits.

But today we had a lot of fun. SJ likes watching Pinky Dinky Do. One of the parts of the show is time in the story box. Pinky leads everybody to the story box and then once inside tells make believe stories. So today Selah June and I made her a story box of her very own. We colored it’s walls and added stickers to its walls and floor. She added some books and toys to a corner of it and rolled around for a while enjoying her new little space.

The weather has been wonderful. We’ve enjoyed late afternoon play on our swing set. Each afternoon as we turn in the driveway to park, she exclaims,” Mom! Look! My park’s still here!.” I don’t know why she thinks Santa might take it back, but we’re really happy that the thought hasn’t occurred to him yet.

Much to her daddy’s chagrin, she really likes leaning backwards while she’s swinging. It freaks him out… which kind of makes her extra happy.
