Selah June is .5 Years Old!

March 26, 2015

Today is SJ’s half birthday…. AND SHE’S STILL ALIVE!!!  That’s amazing.  We are rolling over and have two teeth coming in.  We are jumping and grabbing and singing and laughing.  There’s so many things we like to do!  We eat peaches and pears like a trooper.  And we’re sleeping like a rockstar.

I can’t pick just one….

Workin’ 9 to 5 (or 10)

March 25, 2015

Tonight, CASSH is hosting Sebastian Junger for the UWF Downtown Lecture Series.  I’m really excited to hear him (and nervous to meet him and introduce him).  It’s going to be a good event.  Jeremy’s taking care of little monkey.  Apparently, they’ve played with her drum, her octopus, her exersaucer, and her Johnny Jump Up.  They’ve gone on a walk and seen some dogs.  It’s been a good night with Daddy.

Pretty Peachy

March 20, 2015

We’re trying starter foods.  Pears were first, and now we’re testing out peaches.  See what you think about the results….

Crazy Day

March 19, 2015

thumb sucking

This day was full of crazy.  Grammy fell yesterday and hurt herself.  So today we all scrambled to figure it out.  I ended up taking Selah June to school with me, and that kept me from being able to prepare for class.  Work stress made the environment in the office really hyper and busy.  No preparation for class….  uggghhhhh

Jeremy picked her up a few minutes before my class started.  I didn’t feel good about my lecture at all.  It was yucky.  And then I spent the afternoon trying to pick people up off the floor back in the office.  It just wasn’t a good day.

BUT….

Mom is fine.  She needs some R&R, but she’ll be okay.

Selah June is cutting her very first tooth!!!  She’s miserable and fussy as all get out, but she has good cause.  I can’t imagine a sharp tooth pushing its way up through my gums.  That just sounds awful.  She also started screeching today.  So fun….

I wish today had not been as stressful so that I could have relished these firsts a little bit more.  Oh well.  We’ll try again tomorrow.

Contemplation

March 16, 2015

I had an evening event, and Jeremy had to take care of Selah June.  The drive to and from dinner gave me time in the car (without the baby) to think about life, love, and other mysteries.  It’s been a long time since I drove my car without holding a little baby hand from the front seat until my arm went numb, without sh sh sh–ing at every stop light, without hearing the occasional baby tune from a dangling monkey.

Beach Bum Baby

Selah June had no problem adjusting to condo life.  She digs the million dollar properties.  We had lots of tummy time and Johnny Jump Up time.  She flirted with Grandpa as he made silly faces.  She tried pears!  She felt the sand in her toes and spent time in the indoor heated swimming pool.  She went with Daddy all around the outlet mall on a hunt for a baby raincoat.  She watched all of us pig out at Lamberts while rolls flew over her head.  It was a CRAZY time.

Her cousins came to visit on Saturday, and she played with Jules.  They smiled at each other, and she grabbed at his ear.  She fought off Winston as he tried to shake her arms like a rag doll.  She gave Jessica kisses while grabbing onto her face.  She spent time snuggling with Grammy.  It was all around a great beach adventure.

Selah June’s First Sunrise

March 14, 2015

I’m behind on Selah June’s blog because we took a family mini-vacation to the beach for an extended weekend.  This was SJ’s first time sleeping overnight away from our house since leaving the hospital.  It was a BIG deal.  🙂

She did great, and we all had fun.  The beach was not that pretty the first few days we were out there.  Lots of fog….  Fogsoon 2015 in fact.  By Saturday, it cleared off.  Jeremy and Selah June were up by sunrise and thought that Mom should be up too.  Wrapped up in a blanket, SJ watched her very first beach sunrise.  Grandpa took lots of pictures, and one of monkey just happened to get in the mix.

Loved Like the Dickens

my baby daddy

March 8, 2015

I don’t think any baby could possibly be loved more than this little baby.  Jeremy adores her.  As soon as Selah June and I get home and pull into the garage, Jeremy is coming out the door to greet us and take his baby girl inside the house.  She lights up at the sight of him like he absolutely hung the moon.  I’ve never seen anything like it.

Watching this bond form is amazing.

Destin in Diapers

March 7, 2015

new owl

We went shopping in Destin today — Selah June’s longest car trip to date.  It was an adventure!  There was a little bit of napping involved.  We might have had a few drinks on the road.  And there definitely was shopping for miss priss.  We’re working on our 9 month wardrobe.  Summer is coming, and the only appropriate thing we have is the short-sleeved onesie.  Dad sent us on a mission to get a baby swimsuit.

Selah June wasn’t so interested in a swimsuit as she was in this owl.  Given a choice among toys, this was her first pick.  Who needs clothes when you have a jingling pink owl?
