Dancin’ Baby

cutie pie

January 31, 2015

Selah June loves her Daddy.  I think he is her absolute favorite person in this world.  They talk and talk and talk and talk.  He practices consonant sounds with her.  He reads Goodnight NOLA to her.  And he plays “dancin’ baby” with her.  That’s one of their favorite games.  Standing her up on her feet in his lap, he twists her at the waist and sings “Dancin’ baby, dancin’ baby, dancin’ baby.”  Then really fast — “Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance!”  And SJ just grins ~

Baby Einstein Comes to Life — or at Least to Stuffed

sj and octopus

January 29, 2015

SJ loves Baby Einstein puppets on YouTube, and this octopus is one of the main characters.  Tim and Kom gave this stuffed animal to her for Christmas, and she’s just now the right age to really enjoy playing with it.  We make it play music and then I make it dance all around.  It gives her kisses and bounces to the beat.  It dances up high and comes back down.  It dances backwards, and then it dances forwards.  It touches her face with its little arms.  She’s not quite to the point of learning her colors, but I’m sure she’ll love to push the sensors in each arm and recognize “green, purple, pink, and yellow.”

Reaching for the Stars

say what play mat

January 30, 2015

Selah June is really really trying to grab things.  We spaced out all of our rings and dangly things a bit better and tried our play mat again today.  We can actually touch the stars and fishes now.  The big orange fish is good to kick with our little feets.  And the glowing turtle that makes all the music keeps our attention for at least a good six minutes.

4 Months Old (Already)

January 26, 2015

Selah June is 4 months old.  She is a precious jewel.  Every day I fall more deeply in love with her.  This week alone, she started sucking her thumb while she’s awake, thinking about rolling over, giggling when tickled, playing with toys at Grammy’s house, and the list goes on and on….

At her 4 month appointment, we found out that she is in the 10th percentile for height, the 50th percentile for weight, for a composite score of 90th percentile for chunk.  Her head is also in the 90th percentile.  Our sweet little girl is going to be an egg-headed chunk.  Sounds about right.

Grey’s Anatomy

January 24, 2015

I think a lot about how quickly she’s growing up.  It makes me sad to go through her clothes and weed out the little tops and bottoms that no longer fit.  We waited so long for her to join our family, and now it seems like she’s in a mad rush to grow up and leave it.  Isn’t that silly?  She’s only 4 months old, and I’m already experiencing empty nest syndrome.

I’m also excited to wake up every morning and see how her little personality develops.

Sometimes I look at her and think she looks so grown up.  I can imagine the little person she’s becoming.  She’s already showing clear preferences for sounds and faces, for books and videos, for people and places.  I want to know all those preferences. I can’t wait to go on trips together, to watch movies and get treats.  Maybe when she’s big and I’m old, she’ll still want to spend time with me.  She’ll call me just to see what I’m doing and stop by to give me a hug.

Man… I think I need a shot of whiskey.

Thank Goodness It’s Friday!!

selfie 4

January 23, 2015

Selah June and I decided to celebrate the fact that it’s Friday with some morning selfies in really dim lighting.  Yes, it’s raining outside.  Yes, Mom has lots of meetings to attend.  But it’s FRIDAY!!  We have the whole weekend, and we’re healthy!  No more stinky RSV.

You’ll notice the little scratches on SJ’s nose.  These are battle wounds from our newfound passion of thumb-sucking.  In an attempt to find our mouth with our thumb, we jab ourselves with scratchy baby nails.

I’m trying to keep up with the little daggers, but they grow like weeds.

Makin’ A Run For It!

January 19, 2015

We escaped!

After a whole week of yucky RSV, Selah June started eating and singing and all around enjoying life again.  Grammy and Grandpa came and rescued us from our den of scum and illness.  A trip to a new restaurant and Best Buy was an unbelievable treat.

It was a surprise to get to spend five days at home with her.  I hate that it was under these circumstances… but I’ll take whatever time I can get.
