Ruggies

Wednesday, May 17, 2017

Daddy brought somebody home another Ruggy…

We asked her what the new Ruggy’s name was, and she said “Ruggy too!” So we asked her which was first Ruggy, and she got that right and which was second Ruggy and she got that right, so now we have First Ruggy and Second Ruggy. This is an expensive way to learn how to use numbers as adjectives.

She’s also spending time in the evenings playing by herself either in her toyroom or in her bedroom. After being in her room for a while, we heard this dragging noise. She apparently needed her dollhouse stairs in the living room.

They soon became a precipice for Ruggy dives into the abyss.

Be Careful What You Do!

As we were eating out on the front porch, Jeremy told me to look down at her. She had copied my in crossing her ankles with her feet on the table. I gotta pay more attention to what comes out of my mouth…

Time for the Ladies!!!

Saturday, May 13, 2017

For Mother’s Day, we decided to do girl pedicures and easy dinner. Jessica brought the spa to Grammy’s house with multiple foot baths and aroma therapy, leg masks and paraffin wax, oils and creams, and of course polish.

We had chicken nuggets and veggie tray to keep things simple. And then they were chomping at the bit to get into that stuff!!!!

I set to work on the little girls to give them the experience together and then let them go play.

They seemed to love so so much attention and the ability to pick out whatever color of polish they wanted. Satie picked pink for her fingers and blue for her toes. Selah June picked pink for one hand and blue for the other hand (of course she did!!).

Beautiful Flowers and a Beautiful Girl

Friday, May 12, 2017

This little monkey had hair that reminded me of Cindy LuLou Who from My Dr. Seuss.

She had made me a painted potted plant for Mother’s Day. The flower was a little sad, but she was so proud of it and wanted to carry it while being “VERY careful.”

When we got home and planted ourselves on the front porch to color with our chalk on the sidewalk (and everything else). The irises had just bloomed, and drops of rain covered their blooms.

Park Princess

Wednesday, May 10, 2017

Selah June went to the park with “her kids” on Monday, and I told Jessica that I would carve out time to join them if we could all go again on Wednesday. We met up around 2:30 and drove out to Benny Russell in Pace.

No. I don’t feed my child sticks.

She does this to spite me.

They really like swinging in this contraption. If they weren’t so expensive, I would definitely have one at my house.

When we got home, we went out to our garden to pick a salad for our dinner.

This Week in the Mind of Selah June

5/8/17-5/12/17

Selah June’s mind is making the most awesome connections right now. She cracks us up EVERY SINGLE DAY. This week alone we had the following moments.

One night she was staying up particularly late, and we were trying to suggest anything that might interest her into settling down and fading into sleep. I said, “Selah June, listen to me. How about we go upstairs and watch 2 episodes of Octonauts….? What do you think? TWO episodes.” She had already started walking toward the stairs, and she turned just enough to respond “Paw Patrol.”

One of the more embarrassing things she’s doing is singing all of the words to the songs in the “animal movie” (SING). She particularly likes the first song that is a mashup of all the tryouts of the little animals in the singing competition. One of the little groups auditioning is a bunch of teenage rabbits, and they sing: “Oh my gosh…. Look at her butt. Oh my gosh. Look at her butt.” Of course it’s SJ’s favorite. (face palm)

Tonight she wanted to watch it again, and she made sure to tell us, “That’s Buster Moons. He’s wearing a blue shirt. He’s cool.” That’s the koala bear who owns the theater and hosts the competition.

She also told me in the car, “Mom, I want the do-duh-do song.” What?? That’s like every song. What does that even mean? One of her definite favorites is the song sung by the little mouse who seems like a member of the Rat Pack. He sings “I Did It My Way.” When he gets to the part where he sings, “Regrets! I’ve had a few…” she sings it with gusto. The whole idea of a 2 year-old singing about regret is hysterical, and the irony of “I Did It My Way” at two is not lost on us.

Last night when the movie was completely over, the credits started playing and there are these neon squid that dance. I noticed that she was kind of grooving, so I started dancing in the recliner with little squid moves. She started dancing with me. We were shoulder dancing. Daddy was cracking up at us. We got crazier and crazier. It was awesome.

Playing with Her Kids!

Monday, May 8, 2017

Jessica picked up SJ for an afternoon at the park. They went Benny Russell Park in Pace. The kids had a blast. Selah June and Satie had their fill of a double-seater swing. Jess sent me pictures.

Jessica sent me this message:

“Round and around in a mato! She keeps saying. Because Bastian said they were spinning like a tornado.”

They met me at the house after I got off work. All the kids immediately came inside, grabbed a mode of transportation, and hit the road.

Then they went for the chalk and had a field day.

Of course they wouldn’t all smile at me, but the end product was magical!

Semester’s End

Friday, May 5, 2017

I was so glad to see Friday. The last week of school…the day before graduation… a sleepy campus without faculty or students.

To top off this administrative heaven, a beautiful bush full of roses.

Spending Time Together

Wednesday, May 3, 2017

Its hard to believe this monkey had to stay home from school today because she was sick. She’s been really congested and coughing with a really wet rattling cough. Her allergy meds seem to really help, but sometimes it’s hard to tell whether she has just allergies or also a cold.
