Sportin’ a Pretty Flower

Selah June has the most beautiful face of anyone I’ve ever seen.  (That’s not partial in the least….)

I can’t help but put bows and flowers in her hair as often as possible.  And she’s great about it.  I’m sure she has no preference in the matter, but I’m a big fan of babies with head accessories.  She humors me.  She doesn’t act mad and get her panties in a twist about it.  She doesn’t pull at them or cry until I get them off.  She just sports them like a little princess.  She makes for a beautiful princess….

Crib Critter

One of my favorite times of day is the moment I walk into Selah June’s room to get her out of her crib.  She wakes up, makes some sweet little noises, waits for us to come get her, and then gives us a big grin as we enter the room.  She loves for us to find her in there.  It’s like a really basic game of hide and seek.  Total sweetness every single time.

With Dad away playing golf, Grammy and Grandpa invited me on a little day trip to Malbis.  We had no idea how long Selah June would last, but it was worth a shot.

We dressed in our cutest outfit.  We packed tons of diapers and milk.  And we definitely  took Sophie – the giraffe.

Our number one stop was Dillards.  Grandpa took SJ on an adventure to the men’s department.  Mom and I spent tons of time losing ourselves in shoes.

It was a good day.  Selah June got some leg warmers.

We Love Sophie (the Giraffe)

February 27, 2015

Whoever created Sophie the Giraffe was brilliant.  Long legs, long neck, squishy foam = perfect baby chew toy.  Jeremy bought Selah June a Sophie because EVERYTHING goes in her mouth right now.  She instantly fell in love with her giraffe.

5 Months… Already!

5 month board

February 26, 2015

My monkey is 5 months old.  I can’t believe it.  I have so many emotions about the last 5 months.  It’s hard to sort through them all.  Some days it feels like the blink of an eye.  On other days I feel like I’ve been running a marathon.

This is what I love about her:

She is a wonderful gift.

She lights up when she sees Jeremy.

She is happy unless she is tired.

She has the sweetest face in the world.

She doesn’t mind me changing her diaper or putting on her clothes.

She is ticklish.

She is a good sleeper.

She is a self-soother.

She’s inquisitive and alert.

She brings joy to those around her.

She is a testimony of love.  Her heart is big.

We did some shopping at Sam’s Club today.  It took us right back to one of the first trips we ever made with little Selah June.  When she was just a week old, we tried getting out of the house by going to Sam’s.  The second we walked into the store, we knew it was a bad idea.  The GERMS!  People were like walking zombies… magnets drawn to the baby…. mindlessly grabbing at her with their grubby disgusting hands.

This time was much better.  She was a sweetheart and was so good while we shopped.

Later….

We saw a fierce display of emotion in Miss Selah June this evening.  While Ab and Brock were trying to deal with the boys, Jeremy held Jules for a few minutes.  I would have held him, but I was holding Selah June.  When SJ caught sight of her daddy holding another baby, she absolutely had core meltdown in front of my very eyes.  Her lower lip pouted out.  Her eyes swelled with huge tears.  Her face turned a shade of red.  And she lost it.  She cried!  SJ doesn’t cry very often over very much at all.  I told Jeremy to leave the room… that he was upsetting her.  Even after he left, she just cried and cried.  Her heart was broken.  Her daddy had traded her in for some other baby, and she couldn’t handle the terrible rejection.  Who was that other kid? Why was he so special?  Where did he come from?  Her little mind was just racing with rage and grief.

After several minutes, I traded babies.  Jeremy swept Selah June up in his arms and tried to snuggle her.  He sang SEVERAL songs to her before he could get a smile out of her.  She was not happy with him, and she wasn’t about to just let him waltz back into the picture.

Mom’s Big Day

February 20, 2015

I had my Rite of Passage talk on Friday.  Jeremy and Mom both wanted to go, so we decided to talk Selah June.  She’s usually really good when Jeremy walks around and holds her, so we figured that worst case scenario he could stand in the back — which he did.  She was really really great though.  No crying… barely a peep.  I think Jeremy walked outside with her one time.

There were so many people who wanted to see her!  She got to meet many of the important people in her mommy’s life.  And she got to hear her mommy “do her thing” for the first time.

“I don’t know about you….”

ok i like you

“Okay… You’re okay.”

Selah June wants to put EVERYTHING in her mouth.  On her exersaucer, she loves the big blue ball.  Actually, most of what she does in her “office” is try to eat the big blue ball.  It never ceases to be a challenge.

She’s also getting really good at holding her bottle.  I don’t know what to do with this new streak of independence.  A first sign that she’s not going to need me always and forever.

Whoa…..  What a night.  I was a dumb butt and stayed up until 10 working on my Rite of Passage talk for Friday.  Selah June was up at 11, then again at 4, and then again by 7:30.  I think she’s going through some kind of developmental phase.  Every time we go to check on her in her crib, she’s rolled over all the way to the rails.  Every time I change her diaper, she’s grabbing my arms with both hands.  There’s a lot going on in that little girl’s brain!  I’d probably have trouble sleeping too.  🙂
