Family Funday

IMG_1971

June 14, 2015

I got back from Wisconsin on Saturday, and Sunday we went out around town as a family.  We ate an early dinner at Tijuana Flats, and the weather was nice enough that we were able to eat outside.  It was great to get some fresh Florida evening air.

Selah June loves being outside, so she was in hog heaven.

While the Mommy’s Away, the Little Monkey Plays!

IMG_1981

June 13, 2015

Jeremy was a responsible baby-daddy and sent me lots of pics of the little monkey so that I could see her smiling face while I was away.

Apparently, he went into her room because he heard little SJ noises on both Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, and there was my monkey STANDING UP IN HER CRIB!!!!

Of course she hit that milestone while I was away….

Lots of New TOYS!!!!

June 11, 2015

Selah June had a day all by herself with Jess.  Grammy was celebrating her anniversary….(ewwww… roast beef!!!!), and Jessica offered to send Satie and Sebastian to Grandmother’s and keep little miss at her house.  While I was sitting through boring conference meetings, these are the sweet pics I received.

Selah June liked a whole toy room full of new stuff all to herself!  I have to admit that the pic in the toy room might have inspired a trip for toys as soon as I got back from Madison.

A Shopper Is Born

June 9, 2015

While I was away, Grammy decided to take Selah June to Target.  And Grammy knows how to do Target with tots right!  She has the fancy shopping cart cover, so that the little one doesn’t have to touch any of the seat or handle.

So…  I’m out of town, at my conference, and this is what I get.

What does that face say to you?  Can we say shopaholic?  And what I really love is the second photo.  Look at those people-watching skills…  We are going to have some fun at the mall!

Here’s the experience in action…

Soaking It In

June 7, 2015

edited baby blue eyes 1

I had to go out of town for work this week, so I tried to soak in every little smile and snuggle that I could get from Miss Sj over the weekend.  It was nice to be away from school and with great company, but I did miss my punkin terribly.  Why can’t we just bottle up all of this sweetness and enjoy it forever?  She’s getting so big.

Photo Shoot

Selah June looked so cute in her new outfit from Old Navy that I had to get her outside for a photo shoot.  The only problem was that she really didn’t like the feel of the grass.

My Baby Doll

June 5, 2015

I spent the first half of the day carting SJ around to swim lessons with Bastian Jones and the gang and then hanging back at the house to get in a good morning nap.  Grammy has all of the Walker boys right now, so we tried to give her a little bit of a break.

When she woke up from her nap, she was in such a good mood.  And she looked so cute!!!  I had to snap a few shots.

It’s days like this that make me resent having to earn a living.

Day at the Office… for Selah June

June 4, 2015

day at the office

Through multiple kids who have spent countless hours at Grammy’s house, this contraption has taken on the name – “the office.”  It’s now SJ’s turn to make use of the office during her play dates with Grammy.

We’ve been doing a lot of tummy time recently, working on our crawling.  Though she’s just now mastering the trick, she has found the utility in scaling humans spread out on the floor and diving over them to see what might lie on the other side.  Apparently this maneuver came in handy at Grammy’s house.  SJ scaled the outside of her office and used it to stand on her own two feet.  How incredible is that??!!

So does this require an “Out of the Office” message on her email account and phone line?  Soon enough, I’m sure.

Swimming! (or at least floating)

June 4, 2015

Selah June is finishing up her second week of swim lessons with Miss Carrie.  We’re still fussing through the whole experience, but we’re also reaching all of our important milestones like a champ!  She’s really funny.  We get to Carrie’s every morning around 8:25.  She smiles as we walk up to the pool and she sees Carrie for the first time.  She enjoys the sunshine on her face as I strip her down and shove her little baby thighs into her tight reusable swim diaper.  It’s like any other normal, wonderful morning.

And then it happens.

I pick her up, hand Carrie her BUDS form, and pass SJ over.  She sees the crystal blue waters of the big above-ground swimming pool, and she begins to yell.  Everything about her verbal and nonverbal communication screams “I don’t want to be in this water!  I want to get out of here!  I hate doing this!  Why are you torturing the baby??!!”

For several minutes, Carrie patiently practices her float.  “Less kicking…. Little cries… Airplane arms….  There you go!  Yes, Selah June!  That’s it!  Beautiful, baby…”

Today she got her face wet for the first time — intentionally, that is.  Carrie looked into her eyes and waited till just the right second when she had just taken a breath and then – dunk – she was under and back before she knew what had happened.  We have to practice the sensation of water touching her eyes.  It’s very uncomfortable and disorienting for babies, and it’s one of the things she has to get used to happening when she ends up in a pool.

By the end of the lesson, she had won Carrie over with her beautiful floats.

Carrie lifted her up and over the side of the pool and rested her on her left side to help all the air bubbles in her tummy come out as burps.

And this is Selah June after swim lessons.

She immediately stops fussing, but she is a worn out little punkin’.

We bring a bottle as a treat for post-swimming R&R.

Late May-ish

This post is a little delinquent.  I just realized how to successfully post video.

Here is a fun video of Grammy’s tactics in trying to get Miss Selah June to crawl.

Do you hear her cheerleaders?  She has quite the audience.
